About MAVRIC-IPF
IPF stands for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. We need safe, effective, and low-cost IPF treatments. The MAVRIC-IPF study will evaluate if the use of a medication called Metformin can help people living with IPF. Metformin is a commonly used medication to treat high blood sugar (diabetes). It is not known if Metformin could help people living with IPF. The use of Metformin is considered experimental in this study.
Participants
Over two years, approximately 800 people with IPF will be evaluated to join the MAVRIC-IPF study. We anticipate that of these 800 people about 400 will be eligible to receive Metformin or placebo. There are set criteria for participating. Participants can expect a series of study visits over a two-year study period. Participant safety is always the top priority.
Who We Are
There are 14 Veterans Administration (VA) medical research and education centers enrolling participants. An additional 39 clinical centers (non-VA), many affiliated with the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Care Center Network (PFF-CCN), will also enroll participants.
